Help us to prevent diabetic foot wounds and amputations
Job Title:
Biomechanical Engineer – MedTech product development
Your challenge:
People with long-term diabetes are at risk of developing diabetic foot ulcers, which affect about a quarter of all diabetes patients. These wounds are preventable, but current solutions are neither user-friendly nor cost-effective for physicians to prescribe. Secuped is developing an innovative home-monitoring device to fill this gap—and we need your expertise to design the core internal mechanics and sensing algorithms that make this possible.
Your role:
Biomechanical engineer: You will develop and optimize the sensor configurations and, together with the product designer, ensure the internal mechanical structure supports the thermal requirements. This includes understanding foot biomechanics and temperature measurement, and signal acquisition in a home-use environment. As with many things in life, this is not as easy as it may sound. Not in the least because it needs to work perfectly day-in, day-out in thousands of devices in varying circumstances.
Algorithm developer: You will translate the sensor data from your design into clinically relevant metrics, helping identify early signs of diabetic foot complications. You'll lead algorithm development (e.g., foot alignment, trend aggregation, anomaly detection) while working in cooperation with the team.
R&D integrator in a multidisciplinary team: Collaborate with product designers, founders and clinical advisors to iterate prototypes and ensure an operational result that is supported by all stakeholders.
Flexibility to assume other tasks: As an early-stage startup, Secuped offers diverse opportunities. Depending on your strengths and interests, you can take on tasks related to prototyping, testing, supplier interaction, or regulatory strategy.
What we ask:
• Background in biomechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, applied physics or similar.
• Affinity with sensor integration, human movement, temperature measurements, or thermal engineering.
• Experience or interest in algorithm development (Python/C++ preferred).
• Ownership and drive to take initiative in a startup environment.
• Familiarity with medical device development and preferably with ISO 13485 or IEC 60601.
• Ability to communicate well in English (Dutch is a plus).
What we offer:
• 1-year contract, extendable based on market developments.
• A key role in a small, ambitious MedTech startup.
• The chance to grow with the company and help shape the product from the ground up.
• Learning opportunities across engineering, regulatory, and business domains.
• Membership in the PLNT startup community.
• Competitive salary.
• Possibility of equity participation after 1 year.
• A flexible work culture with lots of autonomy and impact.
